The Manufacturing Process Of Titanium Tubes 

 

Welded Titanium Tube :

Process Steps: Titanium Strip Coil → Slitting Forming→ Welding→ Shaping→ Heat Treatment→ Straightening→ Eddy Current And Ultrasonic Testing→ Air Tightness Testing→ Finished Welded Pipes.

Features: The production process is simple, high efficiency, suitable for mass production of thin-walled tubes; The diameter range is OD100-610mm, the wall thickness is 2-6mm, and the length is not limited.

Welding Method: Commonly used fusion pole argon arc welding (MIG welding), laser welding or resistance welding. MIG welding deposition speed is fast but there is a lot of spatter; The heat affected zone of laser welding is small and the precision is high; Resistance welding does not require gas shielding, but the joint strength is low.

 

Seamless Titanium Tube :

Process Steps: Titanium Ingots→ Forged Bar Blanks→ Extruded Or Oblique Rolling, Perforation→ Cold-Rolled Vacuum Annealing → Finished Products.

Features: Made by extrusion process, the wall thickness and diameter are small (diameter OD6-108mm, wall thickness 0.5-8mm), the length can reach 15 meters, and the preparation of tube blanks is divided into two methods: drilling/perforating extrusion (uniform wall thickness) and oblique rolling perforation (less metal loss).

Advantages: Better performance, especially suitable for high-precision or high-performance scenarios.

Both types of titanium tubes are required to comply with international standards such as ASTM B337/B338/B861. With the advancement of technology, the quality of welded titanium pipes has been improved, and seamless pipes can be replaced in some fields.

 

The Applicaton Of  Titanium Tubes

 

Heat Exchange Equipment: Titanium tubes are widely used in various types of heat exchangers (such as tubular type, coil type, serpentine tube type), condenser, evaporator, etc., especially in nuclear power, chemical industry, power station and other fields as a standard tube. In desalination plants, titanium tubes are the material of choice for heat exchangers because they resist seawater corrosion and significantly extend the life of the equipment.

Aerospace & High-End Manufacturing: Originally used for aircraft engine compressor parts and rocket and missile structural parts. Titanium alloy seamless tubes play an irreplaceable role in the lightweight design of high-speed aircraft.

Classification And Characteristics Of Titanium Tubes

Pure Titanium Tube (TA2/GR2): Resistant to corrosion by oxidizing media, suitable for seawater desalination and other scenarios.

Titanium Alloy Tubes (TC4/GR5): Higher strength, mostly used in the aerospace field.

Seamless Pipe vs. Welded Pipe: Seamless pipe diameter is usually small (20-100mm), and welded pipe is used for large diameter needs.
